2026.2.0.GM.1478

  • Opening the audio mapping window in the Capture Presets configuration panel now shows the window immediately without a short stall. In addition, selection from the input is now limited to 64 audio channels instead of 128 to match the 64 channels available in the recorded file.

  • Fixed a bug that resulted in some external audio devices failing to deliver audio.

  • Updated watermark license images for improved visibility.

  • The "Logs & Profiles" tab in the "System" configuration panel tab has been redesigned to improve performance on long-running systems with a significant number of log files which was previously causing stalls opening or selecting tabs in the panel. Now, instead of a list of available logs and a menu at the bottom to save a full "TOA System Profile", the tab only supports saving a full profile.

  • Significantly improved performance opening the configuration panel for the first time without stalling the App.

  • Enhanced creation of destination presets and paths. Both tables in the "Destination Presets" tab in the configuration panel support dragging and dropping folders from Finder. If a folder is dropped over the list of presets (left table), either a new preset will be added with the folder as the main path (if dropped at the end of the list of presets or between two presets) or the folder will be added to an existing preset (if dropped on an existing preset). If a folder is dropped over the list of preset paths (right table), it will be added to the selected preset. Additionally, the "Destination Preset" pop-up menu in the "Capture" inspector group also supports dropping folders from Finder. In this case a new destination preset will be added and automatically selected.

  • The "elapsed recording" duration timecode in the multi-viewer now shows "--:--:--:--" instead of "00:00:00:00" when not recording.

  • Fixed a bug that resulted in unexpected colours in the preview and recording using HDMI inputs with AJA devices.

  • The "Marker Presets" tab in the configuration panel has an additional pop-up menu for selecting how markers should be stored with two options: "XMP" and "Chapters". The "XMP" option stores markers as XMP data either embedded in a MOV/MP4 container, or as a sidecar XMP file if the container does not support embedded XMP. If "Chapters" is selected, recording an AVF MOV or MP4 will write the markers as chapters, making them visible in other Apps such as QuickTime Player. Note that this option is currently only available for the AVF (AVFoundation) containers; using it with any other type of container will result in the markers not being written at all.

  • Improved rendering of timecode at smaller sizes in the browser control UI.

  • Any errors that occur are now shown immediately in the browser control UI without requiring a refresh.

  • The browser control UI is disabled by default. To enable it:

    1. Open the REST configuration window.
    2. Click "Defaults".
    3. Click "OK".
    4. Restart all Apps.
    5. Open the REST configuration window.
    6. Click "Open Control UI".

  • The "%Channel" token in live:cut now uses the standard "_" separater instead of "-", and does not prepend "-" to the start of the filename if it is the first token in the naming preset.

  • When configuring an "empty" multi-viewer, the channel connection menu no longer contains any inactive channels, as connecting to an inactive channel isn't possible.

  • Added two new REST API end-points: /ingest/channel returns the full channel configuration and /ingest/requestNamingConvention to request a naming preset's configuration,

  • The "Device" tab in the configuration panel now has an additional "Show All Ports" button that displays an additional panel showing all of the ports currently in use. This may be useful for system administrators to determine which ports must be open on the local network.

  • The "Device" tab in the configuration panel now has a "Configure REST" button instead of "Open REST API" and "Install Self-Signed Certificate" buttons. These buttons are now contained in a separate panel displayed by clicking "Configure REST".

  • The REST API server port can now be changed in the "Configure REST" panel, or set to 0 to disable the REST server completely if desired.

  • The channel preview is now automatically started without requiring Just Control to connect to the channel, allowing "headless" integration without the need to run Just Control.

  • Added two additional "tokens" that can be used for live:cut naming: %Channel for the name of the channel and %StartTimecode for the first timecode recorded.

  • The "Path" column in the "Destination Presets" tab in the configuration panel has been re-worked to include an editable text field and "Choose" button to show the macOS file selection panel. This allows you to see more of the complete path instead of just the last path component and enter the path via the keyboard if necessary.

  • Improved compatibility with HTTP/1.1 keep-alive connections using the REST API.

  • The REST API now supports https:// connections in addition http://. If there is a certificate installed at ~/Library/Application Support/ToolsOnAir/certs/server.p12, then it will be used and the REST server will only accept https:// connections. If there is no certificate installed, the REST server will only accept http:// connections. If there is currently no certificate installed, the configuration panel now has an additional "Install Self-Signed Certificate (HTTPS)" button that will install a default self-signed certificate on the local system. Note that most modern browsers will show a security alert when using such a certificate and ask you to accept the certificate before connecting.

  • When using a Blackmagic Design device and a channel with a specific format (ie not "Auto"), the format's pixel format (e.g. 8-bit or 10-bit) is now respected regardless of the incoming signal. For example, if the signal is 1080p50 10-Bit and the channel's format is 1080p50 8-Bit, then the detected format is now always 8-Bit instead of 10-Bit. If the channel is in "Auto" mode, the incoming signal's format will be respected.

  • AJA SDK v18 Support - Version 2026.1 introduces support for AJA SDK v18, ensuring seamless compatibility with the latest driver versions and macOS updates.

  • Avid OP-Atom Support - This release adds support for the Avid OP-Atom container format, available for both DNxHD/HR and XDCAM HD 422 codecs.

  • Enhanced Monitoring Capabilities - The Engine Application window features an updated user interface, including a new information column that displays the active incoming video signal format to improve overall signal chain visibility.

  • Fixed a bug that resulted in repeated calendar events (e.g. daily, weekly, monthly) only being recorded once in scheduled mode, unless Just Control was re-started between the events.

  • The “Start” and “End” times in the “Schedule” inspector group use a mono-spaced font for improved readability.

  • The “Start” and “End” times in the “Schedule” inspector group now have a “tooltip” when hovering the mouse over the time to show the full date and time. This may be useful if there are events in the list scheduled for tomorrow.

  • Improved spacing between some controls on macOS 26 in the “Events” and “Schedule” inspector groups.

  • Fixed a rare crash, particularly when running multiple channels.

  • Added two new API end-points /ingest/requestCapturePreset and ingest/requestDestinationPreset to request full presets by name, and added additional descriptions to the Swagger documentation.

  • Fixed a bug that resulted in changes to any presets (e.g. add a new capture preset, rename a destination preset) not being properly reflected in the UI (e.g. inspector), requiring a re-start to see the changes.

2026.0.0.GM.1440 - INITIAL PUBLIC RELEASE

  • Channels can now be configured to run in “Auto” mode instead of selecting a specific input format. In this case, the channel detects the format of the input and configures itself, including all capture presets automatically to the incoming format. If you are updating from a previous version, all channels will initially use the previous fixed format, but they can be changed to use the new “Auto” detection mode.

  • The Capture Presets tab in the configuration panel has been redesigned. The “TV Norm” and “Codec” selections have been replaced with two “Encoding” selections to select the “family” and “flavour” of the codec to use and “Format” and “Frame-rate” selections. Both of these also support “Auto” (depending on the codec selection, not all codecs support multiple formats and/or frame-rates). Capture presets that have “Auto” selected in combination with a channel with “Auto” selected for the format result in a setup that adapts fully to the input’s format, allowing you to record in multiple formats and/or frame-rates without needing multiple capture presets for each format and/or frame-rate.

  • In previous versions, if the incoming format didn’t match the channel’s format (assuming the channel is configured for a single specific format), the viewer was black with “NO SIGNAL” displayed. Now, the preview shows the input (video, audio and timecode) with “WRONG FORMAT” displayed, and the channel cannot record. In addition, the channels “Messages” group in the inspector shows “Wrong format”. If you move the mouse over this message, you will see an additional tooltip detailing the detected and expected format. For channels with “Auto” format selected, you will never see “WRONG FORMAT” as the channel will accept any format, but the “Messages” inspector group will show a “Format changed” message each time the input format changes. Again, the message’s tooltip will detail the previous and new format.

  • When the input format changes, all capture presets are automatically adapted for the new format. As capture presets can have fixed or “auto” format and/or frame-rate selected, capture presets may or may not be available given the current input format. If the capture preset(s) currently selected for a given channel are available for the new format, they will remain selected. However, if one or more capture presets were selected that are not available for the detected format, they will be automatically de-selected and the channel will show “CONFIGURATION” in the viewer and will not be able to record until other capture preset(s) are selected that are compatible with the current format.

  • The “Audio Monitor” inspector group has been renamed “Preview Monitor” and now has an additional checkbox to enable monitoring of closed captioning. When enabled, if the incoming signal includes CEA608 or 708 VANC captioning, the live preview will overlay the captions. Note that this does not affect the recording, it is purely for previewing.

  • Updated Blackmagic ATEM SDK to 10.2.1. If you are using an ATEM device, please install the ATEM Switchers 10.2.1 driver update. Updated to Desktop Video SDK 16.0 to follow upon general availability. Please use Desktop Video drivers 16.0 for maximum compatibility.

  • Removed errors and restrictions for certain capture presets (e.g. XDCAM, DNxHD) based on the video bit-depth (8-bit, 10-bit) of the source. Instead incoming video is now transferred to the format required by the specific encoder as necessary.

  • When recording uncompressed video, the recorded video now matches the selected bit-depth of 8 or 10-bit, regardless of the video supplied by the input.

  • The local NTP and LTC over audio clocks are now synchronised once every minute when not recording to prevent drifting over time when a source is delivering frames slightly slower or faster than the specified timebase.

  • Any incoming SCTE-104 VANC messages are now logged in the channel’s “Messages” inspector group. Hovering over the message in the inspector will display a tooltip with more information about the specific SCTE-104 message.

  • If the multi-viewer has empty viewers (not connected to any channel), selecting a viewer now displays configuration options in the inspector. These options include showing a clock with the current time, an image or various timers (countdown, stopwatch, time until a certain time in the future). In addition, you can select a currently disconnected channel to show it in the empty viewer.

  • When assigning an image to an “empty” viewer in the multi-viewer, the image is now “clipped” to the viewer’s size depending on the scaling selected. For example, “Resize Aspect Fill” will ensure that the aspect is preserved while filling the available viewer area, but now without exceeding the bounds of the viewer. When selecting an empty viewer in the multi-viewer, there is a new “Channel Preview” option that allows you to display a channel’s preview in the viewer, either capture or playout channels.

  • When clicking the “C” (Capture Preset) button at the top left of the channel viewer, the pop-up window now displays “Auto” for the resolution of any capture presets configured to automatically adapt to the input’s format & resolution.

  • When writing SCC, MCC or metadata sidecar files, if the sidecar path matches exactly the main asset’s path, and the naming preset is defined to create sub-folders (e.g. date, time), then the sidecar files now respect those sub-folders and are now written in the same folder as the main asset. However, if the sidecar path doesn’t match, then the sidecar file will be written to the defined path plus the name of the asset (without any sub-folders).

  • The audio sample bits selection has been replaced with a configuration button that differs depending on whether “Linear PCM” or “AAC” has been selected as the audio encoder. If “Linear PCM” is selected, the configuration button shows a window with a selection of audio sample sizes. If “AAC” is selected, the configuration button shows a window where you can enter the AAC encoding bitrate in kbit/s. AAC audio now supports 44.1 kHz in addition to 48 kHz sampling.

  • MP4 and HLS containers now support the full range of audio channels, so you can record 1, 2, 4 or 8 pairs of stereo channels or up to 16 channels of mono encoded in AAC in addition to now being able to specify the encoding bitrate.

  • Linear PCM now supports recording 32-bit audio in addition to 24 and 16-bit.

  • Updated macOS 26 Tahoe related UI functions.

  • Improved online licensing information and handling.

  • Updated to NDI 6.3.2.0 for improved performance and stability when using NDI sources.

  • Improved the missing LTC over Audio detection and error handling, both in Just Control and the REST API.
