Capture 2026.1 strengthens secure integrations, expands hardware and post-production compatibility, improves signal visibility, and adds updated guidance for professional multichannel recording systems.
Secure and More Reliable REST API
The REST API now supports secure HTTPS connections as well as HTTP, and HTTP/1.1 keep-alive handling has been improved for more reliable communication with automation, MAM/PAM, web, and custom systems.
A new Install Self-Signed Certificate (HTTPS) option simplifies local setup. When a valid certificate is installed, the REST server accepts HTTPS connections; without one, it continues to use HTTP.
AJA SDK v18 Support
Version 2026.1 supports AJA SDK v18 for compatibility with current AJA drivers and macOS releases.
ToolsOnAir recommends AJA Driver Version 18 for this release. Review AJA’s driver removal and installation guidance carefully before upgrading from version 17.
Avid OP-Atom Support
Just In Mac Pro 2026.1 adds the Avid OP-Atom container format for DNxHD/HR and XDCAM HD 422 codecs.
This provides improved compatibility with Avid Media Composer and Avid-based post-production workflows.
Enhanced Signal Monitoring
The Engine Application window includes an updated interface with an additional information column for the active incoming video format.
Operators can see more of the signal chain at a glance and verify incoming formats more easily during production.
Updated Multichannel Hardware Recommendations
ToolsOnAir expanded real-world testing across AJA and Blackmagic Design video cards and Sonnet Thunderbolt 3 and Thunderbolt 5 PCIe expansion systems.
The resulting recommendations cover complete recording chains, including the Mac, Thunderbolt connection, expansion chassis, video I/O, format, codec, storage performance, and recording settings.

Compatibility testing is underway for macOS 27 Golden Gate to prepare Capture 2026.1 workflows for the upcoming operating system.
Testing includes recording workflows, supported video hardware, driver interaction, REST API operation, and overall system stability.
